The Cade Prize for Inventivity—named in honor of Dr. Robert Cade, the lead inventor of Gatorade—recognizes trailblazing inventors and entrepreneurs who demonstrate a creative approach to solving real-world problems in their field of expertise.
Last year’s Grand Prize winners, WriggleBrew, developed a groundbreaking process that uses bioreactors to decompose plastic waste and yield organic plant fertilizer. The team received $60,000 in equity-free cash prizes, along with no-cost legal council, marketing, and product development consulting.
“Winning the grand prize was one of the most profoundly wonderful moments of my life,” said Sam Baker, CEO of WriggleBrew. “Cade is doing a great service to our culture by emphasizing the importance of Inventivity and providing aspiring inventors—myself and my team included—a forum to share our work and ideas.”
New for 2025, and in honor of Dr. Cade’s legacy, the Cade Prize is partnering with Gatorade to introduce a brand-new category: Inventivity in Sports.
This new category highlights the power of Inventivity in athletics—from advancing equipment and boosting performance, to preventing injuries or even elevating the fan experience. If you or someone you know has a game changing idea—it’s time to apply.
In addition to Sports, the 2025 Cade Prize is now accepting applications in the following categories:
- Environmental
- Healthcare
- Technology
- Wildcard
The final application deadline is July 10, 2025. Winners will be announced at the Cade Prize awards ceremony on October 1, 2025, at the Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention in Gainesville, Florida.
